Specialty Camps at the JCC
This summer we have partnered with some amazing community and national organizations to offer a variety of specialty camp options suited to fit everyone’s curiosity. From specialized sports camps and fashion design to scuba diving and drone flying, we have it all!
Times for Specialty Camps: Full Day* - 9:00am - 4:30pm ⋅ Half Day Morning - 9:00am - 12:00pm ⋅ Half Day Afternoon - 1:00pm - 4:30pm*most full day camps have recreational swim from 3pm - 4pm each day*If you sign up for 2 half day options - morning and afternoon during the same session we will provide coverage during for lunch from 12pm - 1pm*

Mad Science camps offer a daily combination of in class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands - on applications of the scientific principles presented. Campers create, build and assemble a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us.
June 25 - June 29 - Half Day Morning - (7 - 11 year olds) - Brixology - Step into the shoes of an engineer! Using LEGO bricks, campers will explore engineering fields, and participate in collaborative challenges to solve real-world problems, while using critical thinking, cooperation and creative problem-solving skills to test and improve creations.
August 20 - August 24 - Half Day Afternoon (7 - 11 year olds) - Red Hot Radical Robots - Discover the world of robots inspired by science fiction writers like Isaac Asimov and Karl Capek. Build an OWI EM4Robot to take home. Learn about robot programming with Mad Science’s Baby Steps and Sandwich programming. Program to navigate through an obstacle course.
August 27- August 31 - Half Day Afternoon (7 - 11 year olds) - 3...2...1 Blast Off! - This action packed week focuses solely on rockets and rocket flight. Learn about model rocket design, building, aerodynamics, propulsion, launching, safety, recovery, and repair. Take part in daily launches. Take home your own rockets and an abundance of model rocket knowledge.
Club Scientific introduces campers to the fun of science through hands-on interactive experiments, adventures and entertainment. Campers experience how science stuff works in the real world - presenting programs in a nurturing, encouraging environment where campers build self- esteem with learning.
July 9 - July 13 - Half Day Morning - (6 - 11 year olds) - Coding & Games with Robots - Meet Dash, Dot and Ozobot. Using robots campers will participate in maze challenges and obstacle courses. These educational robots walk students through coding and programming using fun interactive games where campers build and test their skills in math and help them to think further to solve their interactive games. Campers will learn how to code their robots to do different commands.
July 30 - August 3 - Half Day Morning - (6 - 11 year olds) - Lego Robotics & Drones - The sky is the limit in this camp! Young engineers will learn to build and code robots and drones. Campers will build and customize their own personal talking interactive robot friend, code its behavior and complete fun activities. In addition, campers will make rebuild-able, crash-friendly drones using LEGO® bricks.
Tech4Kidz introduces campers to the world of coding and hand on engineering activities.
July 16 - July 20 - Full Day (8 - 13 year olds) - Students will learn to code using Scratch, an MIT Media lab’s program that allows you to code your own games, animations and stories. Campers will create new projects each day and the week will end with an exciting hackathon. Campers will work together to complete a project to show to the group. Our 8 -10 year old campers will also explore the engineering challenges of rescue aid packages which is a real life problem. Students will work in teams to find and test solutions to these problems – how to best deliver air drop packages, what materials to sue to protect the contents, etc and groups will showcase their packages and test out their strength by dropping them from various heights. Our 11 – 13 year old campers will step into the world of pandemic outbreaks and biomedical engineering. Teams will use UV glow powder to observe how an outbreak can quickly become a pandemic. They will develop a quarantine box, engineer an antiviral and handle all aspects of the outbreak.
July 23 - July 27 - Full Day (8 - 13 year olds) - Students will learn to code using Scratch, an MIT Media lab’s program that allows you to code your own games, animations and stories. Campers will create new projects each day and the week will end with an exciting hackathon. Campers will work together to complete a project to show to the group. (Those who are experienced with Scratch will move on to more complex games and animations) Our 8 – 10 year old campers will become electrical engineers and create a light display using circuits. They will experiment with sculpting materials to create circuits that can turn on multiple lights. Groups will showcase their light show at the end of the week. Our 11 – 13 year old campers will learn about and develop their own vertical farm and gain insight into a relatively new concept. Campers will construct window gardens, engineer a water pump and lighting system to develop their vertical farm. Come prepared to get your hands dirty!
Back by popular demand! Blast off this week and learn the physics behind launching a rocket and construct your own to be launched on the last day of camp. Camp is taught by Bob Neudel.
August 20 - August 24 - 9am - 12:30pm (8 - 13 year olds)
Ever wanted to learn how to scuba dive? This is the camp for you. Campers will start the week learning the basics of scuba diving and going through a safety orientation. They will then get in our pool and put their skills to use. Each day has goals, games and skills where campers earn points towards PADI certification.
July 30 - August 3 - Half Day Afternoon (8 - 14 year olds)

Campers will learn the athleticism and artistry of circus and theater performance in this fun and high energy camp. They will develop a sense of confidence and build skills on any level - from process to performance. Campers will work towards producing a performance to be put on the last day of camp! Circus camp is run by Sean Fagan, director of Circus Theatricks
August 20 - August 24 - Full Day (7 - 14 year olds)
Join the area's top skills development camp! Spend the day learning skills, running drills and having fun. All campers will receive a t-shirt and basketball.

Learn from the Brits themselves! Learn skills and practice drills from various British - style sports. Increase gross motor skills and coordination all while having fun. Sports include tag, rugby, kwik cricket, rounders and netball.

Learn from the Brits themselves! Learn skills and practice drills as well as participate in games. Receive a challenger sports soccer ball and t-shirt.

GPS soccer will educate young soccer stars in the technical side of the game by learning skills and doing drills and then have a chance to play games and scrimmages.
July 16 - July 20 - Full Day (7 - 14 year olds)
The Albany Ultimate Disc Association will teach campers the rules of the game and how to play. Basic disc skills and drills will be practiced and games will be played. Ultimate builds character, confidence and sportsmanship!

Art isn't just something to hang on the wall. what about the art that's hanging in your closet, or around you neck? In this week long camp you will concentrate on making art that you can wear. Using a variety of art materials, you will create fashionable design illustrations, unique wearable art, and fashion accessories. At the end of camp, bring your ideas to life during the fashion show.
August 13 - August 24 - Full day (8 - 11 year olds)
After a fun filled morning at your specialty camp, spend the afternoon at the JCC. Play games, sports and run around our playground. Recreational swim from 3 - 4pm each day. Afternoon post camp runs 12 - 4:30pm each day and is for 5 - 11 year olds.
