In this class we will explore the medium of watercolor and how to use it creatively and with confidence. We will discuss watercolor materials and techniques, such as controlling water flow and brush effects. We will discuss color mixing, washes and glazes, resist, negative painting, wet-on-wet, and dry brush. Additionally, general aspects of painting and drawing, such as composition, perspective, line, value and texture will be considered as we develop original paintings. We will paint from still lifes, photographs and our imagination. Classes will consist of brief explanations or demonstrations followed by a painting session. Watercolor is versatile and can be used to create highly detailed images or loose splashes of colors. Remember that what your painting looks like is always up to you. Hopefully at the end of the class you will have gained a deeper understanding of watercolor and be inspired to express your ideas and personal style.
Let the journey begin and let it be fun!
Since this class is open to all abilities, it is important to me that everyone moves at their own pace and has an enjoyable time painting. If you are a beginner and are feeling a little overwhelmed, please ask me questions in class or send me a text or email. If you have intermediate or advanced skills and would like to work on independent projects, please feel free to do so. I am happy to look at any painting done at home.
