What is Kaleidoscope?

Kaleidoscope at the Sidney Albert Albany JCC is an exciting enrichment program for elementary school-aged children, designed to meet the needs of each child. We primarily serve the Albany school district (Transportation from Albany schools is provided by the Albany School District Transportation Department); however, children from schools outside the district are welcome, but you must provide transportation.

Kaleidoscope is divided by three grade groups (K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-6th) for home base room (2:30 pm - 4:00 pm; when child's bus arrives). There children enjoy snacks and games with their friends. Each day there are one to two fun specialty options the children can choose to participate at the JCC. Activities are offered to meet the diverse needs and interests of our children and may include sports classes, art classes, cooking, music, community service, language, etc. Children are always given the option to choose the Free Play or the Homework Room. Each group has caring counselors, trained to supervise and interact with school-age children and follow a 1:10 staff to child ratio or better during the program. Max group size is 20 children per group.

Daily Schedule for Kaleidoscope

2:30 p.m.: Children start to arrive from elementary schools and enjoy snacks and free play.
3:00 p.m.: Children attend first specialty option.
4:00 p.m.: Children attend second specialty option.
5:00 p.m.: Children meet again in their home base rooms for free play until pick up by 6pm.

Judaic Programming

Typically, an upcoming Jewish Holiday or other community centered topics such as Mitzvot (good deeds) will be another enrichment offering for the children during the course of the school year. A variety of activities make these days fun, as well as educational. The programs are designed so that all children, regardless of religious background, can participate, enjoy and feel comfortable.

School Vacations

The JCC also offers K-6th Grade Vacation Camp programs. These are available for an additional charge, and you must pre-register your child for each day that you would like him/her to attend. Discounted rates for 5 day Kaleidoscope children, and a 10% sibling discount for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th child. Advance registration is strongly recommended as space is limited.
