In this class students will continue to learn the basics of Botanical Drawing. We will begin our drawing forms by layering neutral tones and putting on top color with colored pencils. By the end of class participants will have created lovely Pansies.

Materials Needed: Drawing Pencils (HB, H, 2H), Kneaded Eraser and Soft White PVC free Eraser, 6’ or 12’ Ruler, Colored Pencils: 24 Count is sufficient, Drawing Board, A pad of Strathmore Bristol Paper (Smooth).

Using Kraft Paper For Your Botanical Drawings

The quality and type of paper one uses for colored pencils sets the tone of your artwork. Using a different type of paper called Kraft Paper, gives a lovely contrast to the lights and darks of your piece. In this class participants will play and experiment with darks, lights and midtones on this paper. By the end of class, they will have created a lovely Botanical on this unique paper!

Materials Needed: HB, 2H , H graphic pencil, Kneaded Eraser, PVC White Eraser, Ruler, Stylus (originally used for stamping and creating mandalas), Drawing Board or a Smooth Hard Surface, A pad of Stonehenge Kraft Paper - 9x12 (available at Arlene’s), 24 count or more set of Colored Pencils

Take your love for books to a new height. Learn how to recycle paperback books into beautiful, folded book sculptures! In this enjoyable 2 ½ to 3 hour workshop Nancy will teach students how to create a vase out of paperback books. In addition, students will learn how to create Japanese Kusadama Flowers to “embellish” their vases. What a way to greet spring and summer! Books are supplied!

Materials: Good Scissors, Clear Tacky Glue, Ruler OR Bone Folder, Several Sheets of Solid Color and/or Lightweight Scrapbooking Paper, OR Origami Paper

There is no better way to show someone you care than to send them a card handmade by you. In this workshop, we'll be creating two cards that will delight and impress based on different themes. Come create with some amazing colors, images, techniques and folds designed for both the new and experienced stamper. Be sure to bring your own sharp scissors and double-sided adhesive.

All rubber stamping classes are taught by Sharyn Bouck, independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator since 1996.

Have you ever wondered how to make various colors when creating your art pieces? In this playful 2 1/2 hour class students will learn the 5 basic properties and familiar vocabulary of color theory. They will create their own Color Wheel, and mix/experiment with colors using the 3 main groups (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary). In addition, students will be able to understand and create complimentary, analogous, and monochromatic colors which are essential for creating artwork.

Materials Needed: Bristol Smooth Paper, HB Graphite Pencil, Ruler, Acrylic Paint in red, yellow, blue, and white, Small flat paint brush, Round brush size 6, A palette or heavy paper plate, Container for water and 12-24 Ct Colored Pencils

In this 4-week series, we'll explore the medium of watercolor and how to use it creatively and with confidence. We will discuss watercolor materials and techniques, such as controlling water flow and brush effects. We will discuss color mixing, washes and glazes, resist, negative painting, wet-on-wet, and dry brush. Additionally, general aspects of painting and drawing, such as composition, perspective, line, value and texture will be considered as we develop original paintings. We will paint from still life's, photographs and our imagination. Classes will consist of brief explanations or demonstrations followed by a painting session. All levels are welcome. Cost: $81 JCC Members or $91 Program Guests plus supplies.

Pastels are an easy, enjoyable art medium. They can be used like pencils, crayons or paint and provide the artist with endless possibilities. In this class, students will develop their drawing skills and color mixing knowledge while learning to "paint" with the rich medium of soft pastel. Working from a variety of subjects, students will learn various pastel techniques. They will learn to "see" color and form more artistically. If you like rich, vivid color, you may fall in love with pastel!

Classes will consist of a brief discussion, demo and/or handouts of a topic, followed by a painting session.

In this 2 ½ hour class, students will learn how to use watercolor pencils (which are made with water soluble pigments) to create a lovely botanical flower. They will become familiar with and practice the different techniques using this specialized medium.

This class is for both beginners and intermediate students.

Materials needed: Hot Pressed 140lb. Watercolor Paper (Stonehenge, Fabriano, or Arches), Graphite Pencils (2H, H), Ruler, Kneaded Erasers, 24 ct set of WATERCOLOR PENCILS ( Faber Castell, Staedtler, Caran D Ache, Derwent), Watercolor brushes (Round Sizes 4, 6, & 2 for detail) Container for water, Old rag, Drawing Board, Flat palette with some tooth

Hardcover Folded Book Art

Take your love for books to new heights! Learn how to recycle hardcover books into beautiful, folded sculptures. In this 2 1/2-hour workshop you will learn various folding patterns to create pieces that can be displayed on a table, shelf, or hung on the wall. Books are supplied.

Materials Needed: Scissors, Glue Stick, Ruler, 2 sheets of Lightweight Printed Scrapbook Paper (your choice of the same print, can be purchased at JoAnn’s or Arlene’s)
